Scrapes of food decompose. That means they break down chemically and creates gas during the process. If food is trapped in plastic the gas is trapped too. Food scrapes are getting thrown away all the time. If it’s buried in the soil it will release nutrients into the ground. The gas will naturally return to the atmosphere. Putting all this product is unnatural. We are a country addicted to convenience. It’s as aggressive if not more so than drugs. We’re guilty of throwing away valuable food, that’s the same as throwing money away, our lives.
A person said that compost can bring disease if mixed with meats and fats. The point of compost is to be attentive to it. The weight of food alone kept from landfills would replenish 1000s of acres of desert to grow food, good food! It also reduces the pollution created by throwing this stuff away. If you didn’t have to turn the waste yourself wouldn’t you be grateful to have a service that took care of yourself waste for you? All you’d have to do is separate food from other waste like plastics and metals.
Isn’t it about time the US caught up with the rest of the world? Balancing consumption with production is a challenge but not impossible. Too often we consider rewards in the form of an object, something we can look at or hold. Service is valuable. We could live the best life once balanced.
